Known around the globe as the “Roof of the World”, Tibet is a truly unique and incredible place. The remoteness and isolation of the region has made it somewhat of an enigma in the eyes of the world. The path there isn’t easy, with its high altitude and distance from society, but the few who have experienced Tibet know that it is worth it. We’re here to tell you why.
1. The natural beauty
Tibet is home to the Himalayas, the world’s tallest mountain range, including the magnificent Mount Everest. Aside from the towering mountains, Tibet is known for its splendid lakes and unique landscapes, such as the sparkling, sacred Namtso Lake and Yarlung Tsangpo Canyon, the deepest canyon in the world.
2. The spirituality
The numerous beautiful monasteries demonstrate the strong influence of religion in the lives of Tibetan people, from the famous Potala Palace, to the Tashilhunpo Monastery in Shigatse, to the Jokhang Temple on Lhasa’s bustling Barkhor Street. Traveling to Tibet is inevitably an introspective and spiritual experience.
3. The colorful culture
Tibet has a rich ancient culture and long history with diverse influences from China, India, and Nepal. All aspects of Tibetan culture, from architecture, to food, to local dialect, are unique to the region, and everything reflects the strong influence of Buddhism in their lives.
4. The hospitality
Due to Tibetan religion and traditions, the Tibetan people are known to be friendly, humble, and generous, often welcoming visitors into their homes and offering them food. While wandering the markets, you’ll likely find it easy to talk to and befriend the locals, and learn more about their background.
5. The mystery
The high elevation of the vast Tibetan plateau has kept it untouched from the developments of modern society. Due to its relative inaccessibility, Tibet is still somewhat of a mystery to the surrounding world. Go where few have gone, and discover the wonders of a place that is, to a great extent, unknown to the world beyond its borders.
6. The challenge
At about 4,500 meters above sea level, Tibet’s altitude can prove a challenge to even the fittest of travelers. As you explore the highest region on the planet, and potentially even trek the glorious mountains of the Himalayas, it is safe to say that in Tibet, you will push yourself to your limits, and reach new heights, literally.
7. The breath of fresh air
Sitting far above the rest of the world, Tibet is largely untainted by the pollution of civilization. Consequently, the air in Tibet is clean and pure, making Tibet the perfect escape from urban life, and the ideal environment for outdoor activity.
8. There’s no place else on earth like it.
This is simply the truth. Tibet’s one-of-a-kind combination of unique landscapes, rich heritage, and spectacular nature cannot be matched anywhere else on our planet. The magical beauty of Tibet is something you’ll just have to experience for yourself.
