It’s time to hit the heart of China, LITERALLY. This 3 day trip takes you to a SECRET karst cave (a cave with an underground river running through it) which, unlike other more touristic locations, is only known to professional outdoor enthusiasts. We will be rappelling into the cave complex, discovering mysterious underground waterfalls, trekking through underground rivers, ancient trail hiking, and more!!! This is Ultimate Underground River Trekking!
What is Ultimate Underground River Trekking?
We will be using ropes and other protection to complete this challenge. Instructors will coordinate to set up a rope system along the way to help us through. The 6-8 hour trek will involve waterfall rappelling, waterfall crossing, and rock climbing.

19:00 – Meet at Hongkou Stadium (Metro Lines 8 and 3) Exit 3, outside – follow the music!
23:30 – Arrive at our hotel and check in
07:00 – Simple Western breakfast
07:30 – Head out to begin our ultimate caving adventure
09:00 – Arrive at the starting point, gear up and hike 10 minutes
09:10 – Arrive at the “sky window” and rappel down into the cave
10:30 – Change to wetsuits and begin our awesome waterfall rappelling
12:00 – Picnic inside the cave!
13:00 – Continue our cave challenge, climbing over rocks, through crevices, and even discovering underground waterfalls
16:00 – Finish up and hike to our final destination
16:30 – Hop on the bus back to our hotel
18:00 – Local specialty dinner
07:00 – Simple Western Breakfast
07:30 – Set off to our hiking starting point
08:30 – Arrive and start our hike along an ancient trail and through bamboo forests [distance: 10 km, summit altitude 1395m]
12:00 – Complete our awesome hike and head to the restaurant
12:30 – Local specialty lunch
13:30 – Head back to Shanghai
18:00 – Arrive in Shanghai

Not Included – 2 nights – Clean double occupancy rooms for 150 RMB per person per night. These will be booked on a first come first served basis. If you wish to room alone,the single occupancy fee is an extra 150 RMB per person per night. Please note that single occupancy availability may be limited. (If needed, we can help you find someone to share. Pairings in this case are distributed in order of request submission. If there is an uneven number of travelers, the single occupancy may apply.)

Does not include:
Drinks, picnic, accommodation, wetsuit [average temperature in cave is 15-20℃ so wetsuits are needed to maintain body temperature] , and other personal expenses
Basic Travel Gear – PASSPORT, camera/GoPro, sunscreen, small day pack, towel, mosquito repellent, wetsuit(3mm,long sleeves and trousers), swimming goggles, water shoes, socks, waterproof bag and waterproof phone bag, your favorite food for our picnic, flashlight/headlight, spare change of clothes
Water Trekking Gear – a wetsuit (long sleeves and legs) is necessary to maintain temperature under water and guard against scrapes. (SCR fabric, 100-300 RMB on Taobao)

Note: If your passport is in the visa office for processing, please bring the slip of paper given to you by the authorities along with a copy of your passport with you on the trip. This paper can be used for domestic travel instead of a passport.
If the traveler decides to cancel, s/he can get refund of the deposit (a small cancellation fee may apply) up to July 5 and no refund after that. What is the minimum age for this trip? Can kids join?
18 – 65 , depending on fitness level and experience. This trip is not suitable for children or those with a serious fear of heights or small spaces.
Difficulty levels are highly subjective.
We categorize the cave trek as medium to difficult and the land hike as easy to medium. Want to join but not sure if the level is right for you? Just ask 🙂
Note: There are certain narrow passages in the cave which may not be passable for those with waist/hip/bust measurements of over 2ft 8 in. Please let us know if this is a concern.
